Join me as I take you to the High Island Reservoir East Dam, one of 14 Hong Kong UNESCO Global GeoPark sites, where we get the chance to come up-close and personal with hexagonal basalt columnar rocks formed well over 100 million years ago!
After being away from home for close to three years (due to the pandemic), my recent trip back to Hong Kong saw me take some time off to visit for the first time, the Hong Kong UNESCO Global GeoPark (香港聯合國教科文組織世界地質公園).
As there are a total of 14 different sites to visit, in this massive 150 km2 park, I decided on the High Island Reservoir East Dam (萬宜水庫東壩), where we get the chance to come up-close and personal with hexagonal basalt columnar rocks formed well over 100 million years ago!
